Crystalline Silicon

These days crystalline silicon modules get manufactured by first bringing together a single slice of silicon through a series of well optimized processing steps, which create a solar cell. Then these cells are assembled together to make a solar module.

Crystalline silicon, known also as wafer silicon, is the classical material used in large scale manufacturing of commercial solar modules.

Monocrystalline Silicon Modules

Monocrystalline modules bring together silicon solar cells cut from a piece of silicon grown from a single uniform crystal.

These modules are usually the most efficient but of high cost in the tradiotional PV industry, due to the need of highest purity silicon required in their manufacturing.

Multicrystalline Silicon Modules

Multycrystalline or policrystalline modules bring together solar cells cut from multifaceted silicon crystals. While these modules have solar cells looking less uniform than the monocrystalline ones, they are the most cost effective and widespread modules in the market.

Generally these modules tend to be less performing than their monocrystalline counterparts, but the performance gap between them is decreasing continuously recently.
